Thankful for Freedom (An Ironic Poem)

I’m thankful for freedom.

thankful to live in a country where

peaceful protest isn’t met with government oppression.

thankful to live in a country where

leaders are voted out just as easily as they are voted in.

thankful to live in a country where

I can voice my opinion without fear of reprisal.

thankful to live in a country where

I am free to practice my faith.

thankful to live in a country where

the strong protect the weak.

thankful to live in a country where

anyone can become someone.

thankful to live in

the land of the free and the home of the brave.

and I wonder just how much longer

I will be free to say this…
